Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is an island in Indonesia, located about 20 kilometers southeast of Bali. It is part of the regency of Klungkung and belongs to the province of Bali. The island is known for its breathtaking landscapes, pristine beaches, steep cliffs and crystal-clear waters.

• Together with Nusa Lembongan (smaller) and Nusa Ceningan (even smaller), Nusa Penida forms the Nusa Islands.
• The island is rich in natural beauty and offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the region.
• The coast is surrounded by impressive cliffs that drop steeply into the turquoise blue sea. One of the most famous beaches on Nusa Penida is Kelingking Beach or Crystal Bay with its offshore coral reef.
• In addition to its natural beauty, Nusa Penida also offers several Hindu temples that provide an insight into the local culture and spirituality. The Pura Paluang is located high up on the cliffs and offers a spectacular view of the sea.
• The island also offers opportunities for adventure sports such as climbing, hiking and canyoning.
• On the narrow and hilly roads of Nusa Penida, often not even two cars fit side by side, so the scooter is the best way to get around.

• The name “Angel’s Billabong” means “angel’s waterhole”. It comes from the unspoiled beauty of this place, which gives the visitor the feeling of swimming in a paradisiacal pool.
• Access to Angel’s Billabong is relatively easy, although caution is advised due to the uneven and rocky paths.
• From the pool you have a wonderful view of the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
• Due to the natural tides and weather conditions, the water current and depth in Angel’s Billabong can vary.
• Broken Beach is very close by.

• The name “Broken Beach” is derived from the striking formation that looks like a “broken” coastline and opens up into a circular basin.
• The special feature is the lack of direct access to the water due to the high cliffs that surround the coastline.
• This creates a unique natural spectacle in which the water flows through the natural crevice and forms a semi-circular pool framed by high rock faces.
• In addition to the panoramic view from above, you can only sometimes see the beach from below due to the difficult accessibility.
• Like neighboring Angel’s Billabong, Broken Beach offers a magnificent view of the crystal-clear Indian Ocean.

• The restaurant offers a good view of the Indian Ocean and the neighboring islands of Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan .
• The “Gate of Heaven”, which is located in front of the restaurant facing the sea, is particularly striking. The split gate can also be found in many Balinese temples and is called “Candi Bentar” (split gate).
• Three infinity pools and numerous lounges invite you to linger at AMARTA Penida.
• It is advisable to book in advance, especially at sunset, as it can get very crowded.

• Kelingking Beach is located on the west coast of Nusa Penida and is known for its white sandy beach and the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
• The striking cliff formation, which resembles a Tyrannosaurus Rex from above, is a popular photo motif and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the beach and the surrounding sea.
• Access to the beach requires a steep descent, which is a great challenge for some and can be very dangerous.
• Due to its popularity on social media, the viewpoint on Kelingking Beach is often crowded.

• The waters around Nusa Penida are known for their great biodiversity and are particularly famous for the opportunity to observe manta rays in their natural habitat.
• These majestic sea creatures can reach an impressive wingspan of up to seven meters and are fascinating animals that often swim in groups around the waters of Nusa Penida.
• The manta rays use the space for feeding, cleaning or searching for a partner and swim about 5 meters below the surface.
• Manta Point can only be reached by boat directly from the water, but with a bit of luck you can also get a good view of the impressive creatures from the cliffs above.
• Divers and snorkelers have the opportunity to observe manta rays up close at Manta Point. Sightings are not guaranteed, but the chances are often good, especially in the dry season.
• The waters around Manta Point are known for strong currents and can therefore be particularly challenging for inexperienced divers and snorkelers.

• The name “Teletubbies” is derived from the similarity of the landscape to the children’s television series, which is known for its rolling green hills.
• Teletubbies Hill is particularly popular at sunrise and sunset, when the landscape is bathed in golden light and creates a magical atmosphere.
• Teletubbies Hill is located in the south-east of the island and can easily be combined with a visit to Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach.

• Diamond Beach consists of a fine, white sandy beach that stretches along the coast and is lapped by turquoise-blue water.
• The coast is lined with imposing rock formations that give the beach a picturesque and photogenic ambience.
• A special feature of the beach is a large rock that juts out of the water like a diamond and gives the beach its name.
• The Rumah Pohon Tree House is located nearby. It is a tree house built on a tree near the beach and offers a beautiful view of the turquoise sea and the surrounding cliffs.
• Neighboring Atuh Beach is also nearby and can be easily combined with Diamond Beach.

• Atuh Beach is known for its turquoise-blue lagoon, fine white sand and the imposing cliffs that surround the coast.
• The crystal-clear water is ideal for swimming, snorkeling and diving and offers a diverse underwater world with coral reefs and colourful fish.
• Access to the beach is via a steep path from above or by boat across the sea. There are also some stairs to make access easier. However, the ascent and descent require a certain level of physical fitness.
• The neighboring Diamond Beach is nearby and can be easily combined with Atuh Beach.

• Banjar Nyuh is not really beautiful, but it is an important part of the infrastructure. The port plays a crucial role in the transportation of people and goods.
• In addition to boats to the other Nusa Islands (Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan), there are also connections to the Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno) as well as to Bali and Lombok.
