The dry season from May to September is ideal for safaris and game viewing in national parks such as Kruger National Park. The animals congregate at the waterholes, which makes observation easier. The months of July to September are considered the best, as the grass is lower and the animals are easier to see.

The summer months from November to March are ideal for coastal regions such as Cape Town and the Garden Route. The weather is warm to hot and ideal for beach holidays, water sports and outdoor activities.
