Travel time Thailand
Thailand is spread across different climate zones, so the weather varies from region to region. However, a basic distinction can be made between three seasons: The cool season, the hot season and the rainy season.
During the Burning Season from February to April, large areas of land are deliberately burned to make room for agricultural purposes. Slash-and-burn agriculture leads to severe air pollution and health problems, which is why the region around Chiang Mai should be avoided during this time!
Cool season
The cool season from November to February is one of the most popular times to travel to Thailand, as the weather is pleasantly mild and the humidity is lower than in the other seasons. During the cool season, you can expect pleasant temperatures throughout Thailand, especially in the northern and central regions of the country. In the north of Thailand, however, it can get chilly at night, especially in mountainous regions such as Chiang Mai.
Hot season
During the hot season from March to May, temperatures rise sharply and humidity can be very high. It can get very hot during this time, especially in central and northern Thailand.
Rainy season
The rainy season in Thailand usually lasts from June to October, although the exact periods can vary from region to region. During this time, the southwest monsoon brings humid air masses from the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Thailand, which leads to frequent rainfall and sometimes violent storms. Some islands and beach destinations may be inaccessible during this time due to monsoons and strong winds.
